Blackpool have confirmed the signing of Northern Irish midfielder Jordan Thompson after the midfielder left Rangers following the expiry of his contract.
The Seasiders confirmed Thompson’s signing on their official website after the twice-capped midfielder signed a two-year deal at Bloomfield Road.
Thompson joined the Gers in 2015 from Manchester United but couldn’t force his way into a regular first-team place at Ibrox despite impressing when given a chance to shine.
The versatile ace, who can also play at left-back, made three appearances for the first-team at Ibrox and had stints on loan with Airdrie, Raith Rovers and Livingston.
Football Insider verdict:
Thompson never let himself down when given a chance at Ibrox but couldn’t quite make that step up to being a regular first-team player. Loan spells away from Ibrox gave him a chance to continue to play regularly but it wasn’t a surprise to see him leave this summer after his contract ended. With a host of promising midfielders coming through the Academy at Ibrox, Thompson was always going to find it hard to earn a new deal. Thompson is a talented player though and should do well with Blackpool as they look to climb back up the leagues and win promotion from League One. There wasn’t much chance of him winning an extended deal with the Light Blues and it is good to see the Northern Irishman land a new club quickly. Having former Gers team-mate Joe Dodoo at Bloomfield Road should make it a bit easier for Thompson to settle in with his new side and make an impact quickly.
