English club could sign Goldson from Rangers on ‘£40,000-a-week’ deal – pundit

Gabby Agbonlahor has suggested Connor Goldson could sign a £40,000-a-week contract at West Brom if he quits Rangers.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker claimed Goldson’s future will be determined by who offers him the most money as his next contract will be his last “big” deal.

The Scottish Sun reported on Sunday (23 January) Championship clubs Nottingham Forest and West Brom are fighting to land the centre-back on a pre-contract deal.

Rangers

He is out of contract at Ibrox at the end of the current campaign and is free to negotiate pre-contract terms with other clubs.

The Gers may have already recruited his replacement as they confirmed they had struck a pre-contract deal with John Souttar of Hearts earlier this month (14 January).

Asked whether a move to West Brom would make sense for Goldson, Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “Yes, I think so.

“Goldson is probably looking at it like ‘What money can I get?’

“Rangers have probably offered a certain amount and won’t up it.

“With Connor Goldson, I think it’s about money. It’s his last big contract, can he get the Premier League or top Championship money?

“West Brom can probably pay up to £40,000-a-week.

“I think it comes down to money for Connor Goldson and you’ve got to look after your family. I don’t blame him, to be honest.”

Rangers

Goldson has played 195 times for Rangers, scoring 17 times in the process.

He has not missed a minute of action under Giovanni van Bronckhorst.

In other news, Rangers have been tipped to spend ‘a lot of money’ on a January transfer after the latest update.
