English club plot six-figure bid for wantaway Rangers 23-year-old – report
By Danny Wright
English Championship club Hull are plotting a six-figure bid for Rangers midfielder Josh Windass, according to a report.
The Sun claims that the Tigers will put forward an offer of £500,000 for the 23-year-old, who is eager for a move away from Ibrox and back south of the border this summer.
It is understood that Windass is deemed as surplus to requirements by Pedro Caixinha on the blue half of Glasgow as he looks to make a host of changes to his squad.
Hull are under the new leadership of Russian manager Leonid Slutsky, who is also eager to stamp his own authority on the club.
Wantaway Rangers man Windass is the son of Tigers icon Dean Windass, who helped the Humberside club achieve their first promotion to the Premier League in 2008 by scoring a wonder goal against Bristol City in the play-off final.
Josh Windas arrived at Ibrox in January 2016 from Accrington Stanley, but failed to make much of a mark on the first-team.
He made 27 appearances across all competitions last season, scoring once in a 3-0 League Cup win at East Stirling and supplying five assists.
Football Insider Verdict
Windass is one of many pieces of deadwood floating around at Ibrox at the moment and Caixinha needs to get players like him off the wage bill in order to bring in fresh faces. A number of additions have already been made to the Gers squad but it could be a case of simply balancing the books by selling Windass. The midfielder never really took off at Ibrox and it seems like a move to Hull might just be because of his father’s legacy there rather than him having any capability of helping the club return to the Premier League. Still, Windass is quite young and has plenty of time to progress, unfortunately at the KCOM he will always be in the shadow of his dad.
