English manager reveals plan for Tottenham raid this summer
By Derek Smithson
Portsmouth manager Kenny Jackett has explained that he wouldn’t hesitate trying to sign some Tottenham players on loan next season.
The 55-year-old has recently been appointed the new boss at Fratton Park and is preparing his newly promoted squad for League One football.
He is a highly experienced manager and has been in charge at the likes of Wolves, Millwall and Rotherham in the past.
Jackett spent the second half of last season with Spurs’ academy and is now hoping to exploit his connection to help Portsmouth.
The English manager has revealed that he would be interested in loaning some of Mauricio Pochettino’s players to give them valuable experience.
“I have links with Spurs,” Jackett told the Portsmouth News. “It’s a very good club, as are many of the big London clubs. I would like to think Portsmouth would be an attractive option at the right time.
“If there are players who don’t quite make it there or need experience, then if it can help Portsmouth I won’t hesitate to do that. Not necessarily at the detriment of our own players, that’s important. But with the loan window how it is, you have to get your summer window right.”
Spurs have a highly competitive squad at their disposal and it is hard for their youngsters to make an impact at senior level.
They loaned out five players last season, with senior pair Fedrico Fazio and Clinton N’Jie joining Roma and Marseille respectively.
Meanwhile, the north London club also shipped out players to the lower league of English football, with goalkeeper Luke McGhee joining League One side Peterborough.
Youngsters Ryan Loft and Shayon Harrison were sent out on loan during the season to League Two sides Stevenage and Yeovil respectively.
Portsmouth are looking to climb back up the footballing ladder after a fall from grace from the Premier League and are Jackett is hopeful that some of Spurs’ stars can help him next season.
In other Tottenham transfer news, they have made contact for an international midfielder.
