English pundit issues ‘huge’ Celtic board claim as ‘big risk’ pays off

Paul Robinson has heaped praise on the Celtic board for taking “a big risk” with the appointment of Ange Postecoglou.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Tottenham and Leeds United goalkeeper said the board have given Postecoglou, 56, the greatest gift a manager could ask for – “time”.

The Hoops won the Scottish League Cup on Sunday after a 2-1 victory over Hibernian at Hampden Park.

It was the first trophy of the Postecoglou era at Parkhead.

As quoted by Sky Sports (19 December), the Celtic boss stressed the importance of “moving onto the next one [trophy]” in his post-match interview.

When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs for his assessment of the impact of Postecoglou, Robinson said: “It was a big risk bringing him in.

“You have to credit the board. I had to do a lot of homework on him, as I’m sure a lot of pundits had to.

“The board have also given the manager the greatest thing they can – time. He now needs a couple more transfer windows to really mould that squad.

Celtic

“Success for Celtic this year would have been closing the gap on Rangers in the league because they were miles off last year. They are doing that and they have also won a trophy. I expect them to push Rangers all of the way.

“You have to give the board huge credit for bringing Posetecoglou in and sticking with him.”
