English pundit slams ‘very clever’ Morelos after what he heard at Rangers

Kevin Phillips has told Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos to do his talking on the pitch rather than in the media.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the 2000 European Golden Shoe winner said he doesn’t listen to the 25-year-old’s comments anymore “because they change every week”.

Morelos scored his 100th goal for the Gers on Sunday in a 2-1 win at St Mirren Park.

Speaking to Futboleros con la FAM in the build up to the game (20th October), the Colombian striker claimed he wants to remain at Ibrox “for years to come”.

The centre-forward has 18 months left on his current contract at Rangers.

When asked by Football Insider for his assessment of Morelos’ comments, Phillips said: “Morelos is very clever.

“He is good at saying what people want to hear. I think everyone should take what he says with a pinch of salt.

“I don’t listen to his comments anymore because they change every week.

“That is probably why Stevie G came out and publicly challenged him to score more goals. He wants a player who delivers on the pitch. Who does his talking on the pitch.

“Morelos is a player who knows where the back of the net is, that’s for sure. Stop talking to the press about your future and do your talking on the pitch.

” The supporters want him to be performing week in, week out more than anything. Goals will keep the supporters and Gerrard happy.”
