Enzo Maresca reveals if Alejandro Garnacho could start for Chelsea vs Man United
Alejandro Garnacho could become Ruben Amorim’s biggest regret as Chelsea prepare to face Man United at Old Trafford.
Football Insider understands that Man United are set to give Amorim more time to turn things around, with the 40-year-old claiming one victory in his opening five games of the 2025-26 season.
Mick Brown told Football Insider that the Man United hierarchy are losing patience with the Red Devils’ manager, and now he must face an in-form Chelsea side, who have lost just one of their last five.
Garnacho joined Chelsea in the summer transfer window, having fallen out with his previous manager, but the Argentine has made a good first impression since arriving at Stamford Bridge.
The 21-year-old has yet to start for the Blues, but that could be about to change.
Alejandro Garnacho could start vs Man United
Speaking to the media on Friday, 19 September, Maresca said: “In the last two games, he came on and did very good. We are happy with how he is adapting to our style and what we want for our winger.
“If he is ready to start tomorrow? I think he is ready to start,” as the former Leicester City man dropped a huge hint on his starting lineup ahead of their trip to Old Trafford.
Garnacho very quickly became part of Amorim’s “bomb squad” this summer. Marcus Rashford joined Barcelona, while Rasmus Hojlund, Jadon Sancho, and Antony all found new clubs for this season.
Enzo Maresca will demand better from Chelsea after Bayern Munich loss
The Blues lost 3-1 to Bayern Munich in the Champions League during the week, with Harry Kane coming back to haunt his former rivals at the Allianz Arena.
While Cole Palmer was his usual attacking self, not even he could pull his team back into the game, having seen a possible second goal disallowed for offside on the night.
In the Premier League, performances have been inconsistent, but even so, Maresca’s side still sit fifth in the table after four games, boasting nine goals scored and only three goals conceded.
Recent history would suggest that absolutely anything could happen at Old Trafford, but Chelsea will be looking to build on last season and push the likes of Liverpool and Arsenal for the league title.
