Eric Dier: Tottenham 20-year-old focused on club amid reported interest
By Dominic Toner
Eric Dier believes that his Tottenham team-mate Dele Alli is at the perfect place to continue his development into a top player.
The 20-year-old midfielder is regarded as one of the best upcoming young players in Europe and has become a crucial player for Spurs.
The Daily Express reported on Sunday that Manchester City were planning a world-record bid for Alli and Spurs have seen several of their top stars leave White Hart Lane in recent years.
Gareth Bale and Luka Modric were both standout performers for the north London club, but left for Spanish giants Real Madrid.
Dier is fully convinced that Alli is at the right club to continue his progression and feels he is focused on Spurs.
“I think he is fully motivated to do well for Spurs and he is still a very young boy,” Dier said, as quoted on Sky Sports’ transfer centre blog (Tuesday 6:18pm). “I think people need to remember that and I think he is at the perfect place for that.”
Alli has enjoyed a meteoric rise since he joined from MK Dons in 2015 and become an important player under Mauricio Pochettino.
The England international has been in fine form this season for Spurs, scoring 13 goals and supplying five assists in 32 appearances.
The attacking midfielder has struck up a great partnership with striker Harry Kane and they have helped Spurs reach third-placed in the Premier League table.
He has become a fan favourite with the club’s supporters, but could be offered the riches of Man City in the summer.
