Erik Bo Andersen names the best team in Scotland ahead of Rangers clash v Celtic

By Harvey Byrne

Erik Bo Andersen has named Celtic as the best team in Scotland, despite his ties to Glasgow rivals Rangers.

The now 46-year-old spent just one season at Ibrox, where he played 34 times with a return of 18 goals from his forward position.

He featured in one game between the Old Firm rivals and he became a huge hit for Rangers after sticking two goals past Celtic in a 3-1 victory for his team in 1997.

However, he believes that the Hoops are currently the best team in the country after Rangers’ demotion in 2012.

“Celtic are the best team in Scotland and they are stronger after what happened to Rangers a few years ago,” told Andersen to the Scottish Sun.

“There is a difference between the teams but, at Ibrox, anything is possible.

“I was sad when Rangers were down the leagues and had to struggle to get back to the top league.

“Scottish football needs this Old Firm fixture. It needs both clubs to be competing for the title.

“I still get goosebumps when I think back to that match in 1997 and I hope the current Rangers team gets the chance to experience an Old Firm win like we did.

“It’s a very special match and to be part of the history is an honour.”

Rangers were booted down to the Third Division in 2012 after entering administration.

The Ibrox side were one of Scotland’s biggest and most successful sides and had finished second in the Premiership in the 2011-12 campaign.

However, there was no leniency from the powers in Scotland and Rangers were sent down to the fourth tier of the Scottish football pyramid.

This then allowed Celtic to establish a strong dominance over the rest of Scotland and they have won the last five Premiership titles with 14 points currently separating them from the rest at the top.

The two sides have fixtures against Ross County and St. Johnstone in the week, but their main focus will now be on the Old Firm Derby on New Years Eve.
