Erik ten Hag can spark 'instant improvement' after broadcaster's update - pundit

Erik ten Hag should copy Pep Guardiola’s all-conquering Barcelona side to spark an instant improvement at Man United.

That’s according to former Hoops hitman Frank McAvennie, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Red Devils’ potential new boss.

On 6 April, ESPN reported Man United are “set to finalise the appointment” of Ajax boss Ten Hag, 52.

McAvennie has told the new manager he can instantly improve the struggling Premier League giants by copying one key aspect from Guardiola’s old Barcelona side.

“Man United need to copy Guardiola’s Barcelona,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“If you remember that team, they had all of the talent in the world.

“Messi, Iniesta, Xavi, they played amazing football because they were superstars but they also worked so hard off the ball to make things happen.

“Man United also have these superstars, not on the same level as that Barca team, but superstars nonetheless.

“If this new manager can get those lads grafting, you will see an instant improvement.

“It won’t be to the same level as that Barcelona team, obviously, but it would be a good start.

“They don’t work hard, those players. They lose the ball and that’s it, throwing their hands up and the like.

“If a manager can come in and inspire that desire, I think you will see an instant improvement.”

Guardiola was Barca boss between 2008 and 2012.

In that time, his side won 14 pieces of silverware, including three league titles and two Champions League’s.

In other news, one pundit has suggested Marcus Rashford has a “big problem” at Man United after a “baffling” update.
