Erik ten Hag ‘expected to be sacked by Man United’ – Keith Wyness

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness expects Erik ten Hag to be sacked by Manchester United despite their FA Cup final victory over Manchester City.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – admitted he doesn’t believe the Dutchman is the “right fit culturally” to remain as the Man United manager.

The Red Devils hierarchy are conducting a thorough season review this week, where they will decide whether to stick with the 54-year-old or let him go after claiming a 1-0 win over Man City in the FA Cup final at Wembley.

Football Insider revealed on 28 May that Ten Hag will still be sacked as Old Trafford chiefs have been disappointed by the club’s performances in the Premier League after finishing eighth in the table.

Erik ten Hag likely to leave Man United despite FA Cup success

Wyness is adamant Man United will still move on from Ten Hag as Sir Jim Ratcliffe is unlikely to be happy with how the season panned out overall.

He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “I’ve been advocating that he should go. I’ve been very clear on that.

“Man United have hidden behind the fact they are going to do a season’s review this week. Of course, we don’t know what the outcome of that is going to be.

“They were all very circumspect after the FA Cup final and wouldn’t say a word on the subject despite being asked many questions.

“If it does come out at the end of this review that they’ve decided to move on to another manager, then I think they will have been weak after the FA Cup final by either not backing him fully or saying it’s time to go.

“I think Ratcliffe is finding it harder than he thought now in terms of the reality of making really difficult football decisions.

“The way this plays out over the next week will be interesting. If they were to look at the season as a whole, then they can’t be happy with the season they had.

“It was very patchy and very mixed. On that basis, I would expect Ten Hag to go.

“I’ve seen he’s fighting a very good PR act himself, saying ‘I’m a serial winner, wherever I go I win trophies’.

“He’s quite right to say the mess he inherited at Man United was truly a mess, and that there were too many moving parts going on above him.

“I have sympathy for him, but I don’t think he’s the right fit culturally for Man United anyway.”
