Erik ten Hag has ‘disrespected’ five Man United stars after quotes emerge – pundit
Paddy Kenny has called Man United manager Erik ten Hag’s explanation for not bringing on Cristiano Ronaldo against Man City “embarrassing.”
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Premier League goalkeeper suggested Ten Hag, 52, “disrespected” the five players who did come on with his comments.
Ronaldo was an unused substitute in United’s 6-3 loss at the Etihad on Sunday (2 October).
As shown on Sky Sports (2 October), the Portugal international cast a frustrated figure on the bench throughout the 90 minutes.
Erik ten Hag told Sky Sports (2 October) that he did not bring on Ronaldo “out of respect” for the career he has had.
Victor Lindelof, Anthony Martial, Fred, Casemiro and Luke Shaw came off the bench for the Red Devils.
When asked by Football Insider for his thoughts on Ten Hag’s reasoning for not bringing on Ronaldo, Kenny said:
“To come out and say he did not bring him off the bench as a sign of respect… What a load of rubbish that is.

“What does that say about the other players that you do bring on? Are you not bothered about them? What a comment that was. I could not believe it when I heard it.
“By that logic, you are disrespecting the other players you brought on when it was 4-0. What a thing to come out of his mouth. Embarrassing.”
