Erik ten Hag: Keith Wyness drops stunning sack update after Man United latest
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has revealed he was told Manchester United planned to sack Erik ten Hag if his side failed to beat Aston Villa.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – suggested the Dutch manager came out “very vociferously” after the 0-0 draw at Villa Park.
The point against Villa means United have made their worst start to a league season in 35 years as they currently sit 14th in the Premier League table.
The Manchester giants’ hierarchy held a meeting at the INEOS offices in Knightsbridge on Tuesday, where Ten Hag’s future was discussed.
But Old Trafford chiefs have insisted it was a regular meeting that was already planned in the diary as Sir Jim Ratcliffe led the talks with chief executive Omar Berrada, sporting director Dan Ashworth and technical director Jason Wilcox.
Erik ten Hag facing sack after Man United draw against Aston Villa
Wyness insisted the information he heard was Ten Hag would be facing the sack after failing to beat Villa.
He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “Jim Radcliffe has held a meeting.
“They’ve tried to spin it that this was already in the diary.
“The rumours were pretty clear from a lot of the sources I’ve been speaking to that no, it was going to be a definite sacking if Ten Hag didn’t win against Villa.
“He managed to draw. Ten Hag’s come out very vociferously over the weekend.

“He’s actually gone on holiday as I understand it, believing that everything’s going well and is going according to plan.
“It’s been one of the worst starts to a season under Ten Hag and that’s the reality of it.”
