Erik ten Hag set to agree new Man United deal after takeover update – pundit

Alan Hutton has insisted Erik ten Hag will stay at Man United for “a number of years”.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Tottenham and Aston Villa defender said Ten Hag needs to be given time to develop the kind of team he wants.

According to the Mirror (18 March), the Dutchman is set to be given a new contract at Old Trafford regardless of who owns the club.

The 53-year-old signed a three-year deal last summer and has had such a big impact during his first year that plans are being drawn up to offer him an extension.

The Glazer family are currently involved in negotiations to sell the club with British richest man Sir Jim Ratcliffe and a Qatari group representing Sheikh Jassim Bin Hamad Al Than.

When asked if Ten Hag could stay at United for years to come, regardless of the new owners, Hutton told Football Insider:I think so.

I think that is what he has shown in the short term. He has really turned round that team quickly and you can see what he wants to do.

He wants young, hungry players that he can develop and mould into the way he wants to play. He has disciplined the group and obviously it is working.

It is going to take time, it is a process. When you are looking at the bigger picture you need to go and give these guys time to go and work, bring the players in that he wants. So I can see him being there for a number of years.

Man United fans will be hoping that he can bring the glory days back. He’s certainly been amazing so far“.
