Erling Haaland may be benched at Man City as new details emerge - pundit

Erling Haaland will be on the Man City bench if he does not adapt his game to suit Pep Guardiola’s style, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England forward insisted every player has to listen to Guardiola because of his achievements in the game.

Man City officially unveiled Haaland as a new signing on Monday (13 June) after initially agreeing a deal in principle with Borussia Dortmund last month (10 May).

The Athletic reported on Monday (13 June) that the 21-year-old spoke to Guardiola for 20 minutes about his tactics when he was deciding on his new club.

It is claimed that the Norway international will have to adapt his game rather than City tweak their already successful tactics.

“No matter who you are, Pep’s the main man,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“Haaland will have to adapt to Man City. There are other top, top players who have done it over and over again winning league titles.

“Haaland will come in and have to adapt to the way City play. If Pep says ‘Stop dropping and coming short, go long’ or maybe he says ‘Make sure you stay in and around the box, don’t be coming to join in play’.

“He has to do that or he’ll be on the bench. You play Pep’s way or you don’t play at all. He won’t care about keeping you on the bench, no matter who you are. If it was Mbappe, he’d keep Mbappe on the bench, if he wasn’t listening to him.

“When you’ve won what Pep has won, you get that respect.”

In other news, Man City have submitted a formal bid for a 26-year-old and £50million could seal the deal.
