Erling Haaland on track to smash Mohamed Salah’s Premier League record
Erling Haaland is scoring goals for fun in the Premier League this season and the Norwegian looks primed to add another competition record to his growing list of accomplishments.
Haaland needed just one shot against Brentford to take his tally to nine goals for the season in the Premier League, a total he has reached after only seven matches.
Manchester City look to be hugely reliant on his output once again this season, underlined by the fact that no other teammate has scored more than once for the club in the Premier League this term.
In fact, Man City’s second-highest goalscorer in the competition this season is Burnley’s Maxime Esteve, who scored two own goals when City defeated the Clarets 5-1 at the end of September, a game in which Haaland also recorded a brace.

Erling Haaland can topple Mohamed Salah’s Premier League record
Haaland’s goalscoring heroics have seen him set many a record in the Premier League, the most notable being a competition-high 36 goals in 2022-23.
His supreme start to season puts him on course to topple yet another record – and one that currently belongs to long-term goalscoring rival Salah.
Haaland’s return of nine goals this season is more than nine different Premier League teams, including Newcastle United (six), Aston Villa (six) and Nottingham Forest (five).
The highest number of teams a player has outscored across a full Premier League campaign is three, with Salah’s 32 goals in 2017-18 outranking West Bromwich Albion (31), Swansea City (28) and Huddersfield Town (28).
There have only been three instances of a player outscoring multiple teams, with Harry Kane doing so in 2017-18, as well as Haaland himself in 2022-23.
Player | Season | Goals | Number of teams outscored |
Erling Haaland | 2025-26* | 9 | 9 |
Mohamed Salah | 2017-18 | 32 | 3 |
Erling Haaland | 2022-23 | 36 | 2 |
Harry Kane | 2017-18 | 30 | 2 |
Antoine Semenyo | 2025-26* | 6 | 2 |
It is worth noting that Antoine Semenyo‘s six goals in league action this season mean he is currently on pace to better the goalscoring returns of two teams.

Haaland’s rapid start in context
Quite astonishingly, the only player to better Haaland’s return of nine goals from seven games this season is Haaland himself.
The 25-year-old netted 11 goals after seven games in 2022-23 on his way to the scoring title, while he had scored 10 goals at this stage last season before City curtailed.
Player | Season | Goals |
Erling Haaland | 2022-23 | 11 |
Erling Haaland | 2024-25 | 10 |
Erling Haaland | 2025-26 | 9 |
Wayne Rooney | 2011-12 | 9 |
Diego Costa | 2014-15 | 9 |
Haaland has now scored in each of his last nine appearances for City and Norway combined, the longest scoring run of his career.
With another Premier League Golden Boot more likely than not coming his way, Haaland has set his sights on winning the European Golden Boot for the second time, having previously scooped the award in 2022-23.
Kane, who has scored 11 goals in the Bundesliga for Bayern Munich this season, is currently the only player across Europe’s top five leagues to outscore Haaland, while Kylian Mbappe has matched his nine goals in LaLiga for Real Madrid.
