Erling Haaland sends message to Man City fans after shattering injury blow

Erling Haaland took to social media to address the fans after he missed out due to injury as Man City were eliminated from the Champions League by Real Madrid on Wednesday (February 19).

Haaland didn’t make it off the bench during their 3-1 defeat after picking up a knock in the 4-0 Premier League win over Newcastle in their previous fixture.

The 24-year-old scored twice in the 3-2 defeat at the Etihad before former Borussia Dortmund teammate Jude Bellingham secured the win for Real Madrid in added time.

Kylian Mbappe’s hattrick was more than enough to send the current Champions League holders through to the last 16, securing a 6-3 aggregate win for the Spaniards with the second leg ending 3-1.

Real Madrid winger Vinicius Jr appeared to aim a sly dig at the Premier League club after the game following Man City’s controversial tifo in the first leg.

The striker has been key for Guardiola this season, starting all 35 of his games across all competitions, scoring 27 goals, and providing three assists in his 3077 minutes of action.

Haaland recently signed a nine-and-a-half-year contract at the current Premier League champions, keeping him at the Etihad until 2034.

He has plenty of time to win a second Champions League at Man City, taking to Instagram to say: “We remain as one, sometimes you have to experience this in life and learn from it, you can’t always win. We’ll rise again together.”

Pep Guardiola’s side will travel to league leaders Liverpool on Sunday (February 23) in what will likely be a crucial game for both clubs.

City will then face Ange Postecoglu’s struggling Tottenham, a side who have already beaten them twice this season.
