Erling Haaland to Barcelona: Man City stance revealed after transfer latest
Manchester City won’t be losing sleep over Erling Haaland’s future following the talk around a potential move to Barcelona.
That is according to former Man City financial adviser Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider the Norway international is unlikely to be thinking about who his next club could be.
It comes after Barcelona presidential candidate Victor Font revealed he was negotiating a “preferential option” to sign Haaland if he decides to leave the Etihad Stadium.
However, Joan Laporta was re-elected as the La Liga giants’ president for the next five years on Sunday (15 March) following a landslide victory over Font.
Man City would demand a significant fee in any case for Haaland given his importance to Pep Guardiola’s side.

Haaland has spent the past four years with Man City, having joined from Borussia Dortmund in a £51million deal in the summer of 2022.
The 25-year-old is under contract at the Etihad until 2034 after signing a new long-term deal in January 2025.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider before Barcelona’s presidential vote, Borson discussed the prospect of Haaland leaving Man City.
“If at some point he decides to leave City, I assume the player will want to consider at that time where the best place to go would be, whether it’s Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Barcelona or PSG,” said Borson.
“I mean, the likely reality is that those are the only teams in the world that would be able to afford the player at some point.

“You’d think that he’d want to make that decision at the time if it ever happened, so I don’t read much into it, to be honest, and I don’t think City will lose much sleep over it right now.”
How has Haaland performed for Man City this season?
Haaland has been in fine form once again for Man City this season, having registered 29 goals and seven assists in 41 appearances.
That has taken his overall tally to 153 goals and 28 assists in 187 outings since joining from Dortmund four years ago.

The striker has won five major trophies, including two Premier League titles, during his time at Man City.
It will be difficult for Haaland to claim a third English title this season, with Guardiola’s side currently sitting nine points behind leaders Arsenal in the table.
