Ethan Ampadu declares Leeds parade rampage ‘best day of my life’

Ethan Ampadu was the life of the party as Leeds United marked their Championship title with a bus parade around the city.

The club captain was the main attraction as thousands of supporters lined the streets to celebrate their promotion back to the Premier League.

Ampadu made 29 league appearances for Leeds this season as the Whites pipped Burnley to top spot on goal difference.

Manor Solomon scored a last-minute winner against Plymouth on the final day to ensure that the Yorkshire-based club ended their campaign with a trophy.

Despite the success, Leeds may still sack manager Daniel Farke ahead of their return to the top flight but it’s still party time for now.

Upon winning his first-ever league title, Ampadu made absolutely sure that he left his mark on the celebrations.

The midfielder spent the majority of the parade leading chants about his Leeds team-mates, and at one point had a traffic cone on his head.

In more concerning news for Leeds fans, their skipper appeared to let slip that Junior Firpo would be joining Real Betis in the summer.

Ampadu spotted a Betis shirt in the crowd, and with his arm around the full-back began chanting: “Betis, Betis, Betis.”

It comes after former Leeds goalkeeper Paul Robinson told Football Insider that Firpo would be replaced for the Premier League campaign.

The Welshman wrapped up the day by taking to his Instagram (5 May), and posting a story with the caption: “I’m not going to lie. That parade…Best day of my life.”

Ampadu can prove he is Premier League quality

Football Insider Verdict

Between 2017-2023 Ampadu was stuck in the Chelsea loan system, unable to break into the first team or make a real mark out on loan.

However, since his move to Leeds two years ago, he has really found his feet and, after winning promotion, he now has a chance to showcase his talent in the Premier League.

The Wales international can play as a defensive midfielder or as a centre back and has been utilised in both roles by Farke this season.

With Leeds expected to sign up to 10 players over the summer, Ampadu may have a fight on his hands to keep his place in the starting lineup, even as the current captain of the club.

However, if he manages to string together a consistent run of games in the top flight he will surely continue to realise the potential that saw him snapped up by Chelsea back in 2017.
