‘Incredible’ – Ethan Nwaneri reacts to Chloe Kelly’s England message

Chloe Kelly has celebrated the Lionesses’ success after playing a key role for England in the 2025 Women’s European Championship.

Sarina Wiegman’s England beat Spain on penalties on Sunday, 27 July to claim their second successive Euro title.

Montserrat Tome’s side took the lead through Mariona Caldentey’s header in the first half, before the Lionesses hit back via Alessia Russo’s equaliser, to ensure that the score was 1-1 after 90 minutes.

Wiegman’s women then endured extra time before holding their nerve in the penalty shootout, with Hannah Hampton making two heroic spot-kick saves.

Despite not making a single start for the Lionesses this summer, Kelly emerged as one of the stars of the tournament, notching three goal contributions across the quarter-final, the semi-final, and, crucially, the final.

Kelly excelled for the Lionesses

When England trailed Sweden 2-0 in their last-eight clash on 17 July, the 27-year-old came off the bench and instantly supplied Lucy Bronze with an assist.

The Arsenal woman went on to score the winner in England’s semi-final triumph over Italy, keeping her nerve on the rebound after initially missing a 119th-minute penalty.

Kelly then proved her reliability and class once more when she replaced the injured Lauren James in the final, before creating Russo’s equaliser with a well-crafted cross.

The 27-year-old did not show signs of frustration that she was not in Wiegman’s starting lineup, and instead fired her nation to glory as a substitute.

Kelly’s composure was epitomised when she scored the winning penalty against Spain in Sunday’s historic final, while Wiegman deserves credit for how she managed the winger’s minutes.
