£9m opening bid tabled for Liverpool striker target - report

By Harvey Byrne

Paris Saint-Germain have placed a £9million bid for Liverpool striker target Lucas Alario, according to a report.

The Sun has claimed that that the French giants have opened the bidding for the 24-year-old River Plate forward.

It is said that PSG could be rivalled in their pursuit of Alario by the Reds, who have been impressed by the Argentina international’s performances.

Alario has a £15.2million release clause in his deal with Los Millonarios and it is stated in the Sim report that the club are holding out for £15million, which PSG’s bid falls short of.

The striker still has four years left on his contract and is a star player for his team, scoring five goals and providing one this season.

He earned his first cap for Argentina in September, making a 20 minute substitute appearances during a World Cup qualifying match against Uruguay.

Alario would provide some vital depth to the Liverpool team, who are looking to secure their first Premier League title this season.

The club currently have Roberto Firmino playing as the spearhead in the team, who is not a natural striker.

Behind him sees Daniel Sturridge, who has fallen out of favour under Jurgen Klopp alongside young star Divock Origi and the injured Danny Ings.

Liverpool are just four points behind league leaders Chelsea and the Reds will now be drafting together targets for January.

Football Insider verdict:

Alario would be a very necessary signing for Liverpool given that forward Sadio Mane is leaving in January for the AFCON, while an injury to Philippe Coutinho has had a big impact on the forward line. However, the Reds must first focus on their defence before adding to an already firing attack. Liverpool suffered a humiliating 4-3 defeat against Bournemouth in their most recent fixture and the club have seemingly gone back to looking to outscore their opponents. It did not work in 2014 and it will not work this season. Therefore, Klopp should avoid getting into a bidding war with PSG for Alario and set his priorities on a defender.

In other Liverpool transfer news, the Reds have a chance of signing this young midfield ace in January.
