Evan Ferguson ‘to return to Brighton & go straight into starting XI’

Evan Ferguson could play his way back into the Brighton team for next season during his current loan spell at West Ham United.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, former Tottenham goalkeeper Paul Robinson revealed that he believes Brighton want a “fit and firing” Ferguson when he returns from the Hammers.

The 20-year-old striker has struggled for goals this season, scoring just once in the Premier League during the first half of the campaign.

Ferguson’s poor performances led to limited game time for the Seagulls, featuring just 13 times as Football Insider revealed he wanted to quit the team because of it.

Evan Ferguson can prove himself at West Ham

The Republic of Ireland international has linked up with Graham Potter in a bid to rediscover his form in a move that could see him fighting to get his Brighton shirt back if he puts in consistent performances.

Football Insider revealed that Potter’s appointment at the London Stadium played a “big factor” in convincing him to join the Iron.

The Hammers currently sit 15th in the Premier League and added Ferguson to the squad following injuries to Michael Antonio and Niclas Fullkrug.

Evan Ferguson could play his way back into the Brighton team

“It all depends on how he performs at West Ham,” Robison told Football Insider.

“If he obviously goes there and bangs goals in left, right and centre, it’s only going to increase his price tag and Brighton probably won’t really want to lose him if he goes there and gets back to the form that we have seen from Evan Ferguson.

“When he first started [on] the scene at Brighton when he was regarded as an 80 million to maybe even 100 million pound player when everybody was talking about him as the next big thing in the Premier League.

“If he is fit every week to be in Graham Potter’s side and obviously, he goes and works with a manager who gave him his debut at Brighton, Graham Potter.

“So they’ll be hoping that he can get the best out of Evan Ferguson again, and if he is a success for West Ham it’s been a good loan deal obviously as you said no option or obligation to sign him on a permanent.

“But for Brighton, he’s putting himself back in the shop window by going to West Ham they’ll be hoping he can score goals and get back to his best form, because then it will raise his price.

“Brighton want a fit and firing Evan Ferguson potentially to come back into their starting lineup for next season.”
