Everton attacker Gerard Deulofeu could be set to move to Italian giants AS Roma this summer, according to the player’s representative.
Deulofeu’s agent, Gines Carvajal, has been busy exploring a number of potential destinations for his client this summer, as his long-term future at Everton remains unclear.
The 23-year-old managed just 11 Premier League appearances under manager Ronald Koeman last season, before being shipped out on loan to AC Milan for the remainder of the campaign.
At the San Siro, the Spaniard contributed four goals and three assists from 17 appearances in Serie A, but the Italian side have not agreed a permanent deal.
But Deulofeu could be set to return to the Italian top-flight with rivals AS Roma this summer, after his agent confirmed they were a “possible destination.”
Carvajal told RomaNews Web Radio: “It’s hard to say now but AS Roma are a great club and they are a possible destination.”
However, the most likely option remains a return to Barcelona, who have an option to bring the player back to the Nou Camp for £10.5million.
Barcelona sold Deulofeu to Everton for £4.2million following a successful loan spell in 2015, but they ensured that a buy-back option was installed in the player’s contract.
The Telegraph had claimed earlier this week that the La Liga giants were set to trigger their buy-back option, although Carvajal has made it clear there are a number of different options available this summer.
Football Insider verdict
AS Roma are no doubt looking for a replacement for Mohamed Salah after his move to Liverpool, and Deulofeu represents both a quality, and low-cost option for the club. He would cost just a fraction of the fee raised from the sale of Salah, but the catch is they will likely have to fight off competition from European heavyweights Barcelona. On the contrary, Everton should really be looking to keep hold of a quality player like Deulofeu, because although he has struggled to impress so far at Goodison Park, he is still young, and has the potential to be a huge hit in the Premier League.
In other Everton transfer news, the club are reportedly set to re-ignite their interest in this £10million-rated goalscorer.
