Romelu Lukaku has admitted that talks for a new contract at Everton are completely out of his hands.

Talking in the Liverpool Echo, the 23-year-old said that he leaves all that business to his agent as he wants to keep himself focussed on what happens on the pitch.

Lukaku is currently joint top-goalscorer in the Premier League with 17 goals alongside Harry Kane and Alexis Sanchez.

The Mirror reported in the summer that the Belgian international was wanted by his former club Chelsea which has prompted Everton to enter talks to keep hold of their prized asset.

“My agent is doing the talks with the club, I just want to play football,” Lukaku said in the Liverpool Echo.

“I think for me, the most important thing is that the team does well and that the fans, wherever they go, whether it’s away or at Goodison are happy that we’re winning.

“You can see on the pitch I’m really happy with how we’re performing right now and we have to continue like that.”

Lukaku has struck 18 times in all competitions this season in 27 appearances.

The former Anderlecht man has scored a total of 79 goals for Everton in 154 appearances for the club.

Chelsea sold Lukaku after he failed to score a single goal during his Stamford Bridge spell despite successful loan spells at both Everton and West Bromwich Albion.

He has fired Everton up to seventh in the table after extending their unbeaten league record to nine games, which stretches back to December 19 when they lost a Merseyside derby to Liverpool.

Fans will be encouraged to hear that Lukaku’s agent Mino Raiola has said that he’s “99.9999% sure” that his client will sign a new Everton contract.

The Toffees are within touching distance of the top six and are just four points behind Manchester United and five away from Liverpool, who lost to Leicester on Monday.
