Everton wide forward Gerard Deulofeu has joined AC Milan on loan until the end of the season, it was confirmed on Monday.

The Spanish winger originally moved to Goodison Park in a loan deal in 2013 before making his stay permanent in July 2015.

The Merseyside club revealed the transfer on their official Twitter page on Monday after the player passed a medical at the San Siro earlier in the day.

Since Ronald Koeman’s arrival at Goodison Park Deulofeu has struggled to break into the first team this season, totalling just four starts and seven appearances off the bench without getting a goal or assist in the Premier League, compared to last season’s stats of two goals and eight assists in 16 starts in the same competition.

The 22-year-old is no stranger to silverware despite his young age, winning the 2012-13 La Liga and two Spanish Cups with Barcelona before lifting the 2014-15 Europa League title with Sevilla.

AC Milan manager Vincenzo Montella will be hoping that his new signing will be ready to join up with the squad ahead of their Coppa Italia quarter final showdown against Juventus on Wednesday night.

His first opportunity to play in Serie A would come against Udinese on Sunday.

Milan are currently seventh in the league with only one win in their last five games.

Football Insider Verdict

This is definitely a good deal for all involved. Deulofeu wasn’t one of Koeman’s signings and after an uninspiring first half of the season, the loan move away makes sense. The Spaniard is still a young player and will learn a lot whilst playing in a new league for a club with one of the greatest histories in world football. They’re not doing as well in the league as they would hope but Deulofeu, with his pace and trickery, should find it easy to settle into a league which has a reputation for being a low slower compared to the Premier League.
