Everton and Arsenal stars react to Calvert-Lewin’s message after deal agreed

Dominic Calvert-Lewin shared an emotional and passionate message after his new transfer was officially confirmed.

The striker endured another frustrating season at Everton last term, with injuries once again halting any momentum he tried to build.

After years of battling setbacks, his time at the club came to an end earlier this summer when Calvert-Lewin left Everton after his contract expired.

His departure saw him join a list of long-serving names leaving Merseyside, with Abdoulaye Doucoure and Ashley Young also moving on.

For the 28-year-old, it brought the curtain down on a nine-year stay in which he made 273 appearances, scored 71 goals and provided 22 assists across all competitions, having arrived from Sheffield United back in 2016.

His availability attracted plenty of interest, with Football Insider revealing Manchester United and Newcastle had considered a move for Calvert-Lewin. However, it has now been confirmed that Leeds United have beaten off strong competition to secure his signature.

Calvert-Lewin confirms Leeds transfer as Premier League stars react

It was confirmed on 15 August that Leeds have officially signed Calvert-Lewin ahead of the new Premier League season.

The striker shared the news himself on Instagram with a passionate message, as he said: “An extremely proud day for me and my family signing for this great football club. Elland Road… my new home. I can’t wait to get started. LEEDS LEEDS LEEDS!!!”

Plenty of support followed the announcement, with former teammate Idrissa Gueye commenting: “All the best champ” and Doucoure sharing an applause emoji. Arsenal’s Declan Rice, Morgan Gibbs-White and Antonee Robinson were also among those to react by liking the post.

However, the response from fans has been far less enthusiastic, with many Leeds supporters voicing concerns over Calvert-Lewin. The frustration mainly stems from his poor injury record, with the forward missing 50 games across the last three seasons.

Everton had tried to keep the striker, tabling several contract offers, but were ultimately resigned to losing him. The Toffees have instead put their faith in Thierno Barry to lead the line this season.

Leeds step up interest in Everton striker Beto

While one former Everton forward has already arrived at Elland Road, Leeds remain interested in another.

Football Insider exclusively revealed on 15 August that Leeds are preparing a formal bid for Beto after reports of a falling out with David Moyes.

The Everton boss is said to be unhappy with the striker’s attitude during pre-season, and Leeds are now looking to take advantage of the situation with a late swoop for the 27-year-old.
