Everton require a midfield signing this summer following Abdoulaye Doucoure’s departure and the end of Orel Mangala’s loan spell from Lyon.
The club are also negotiating a new deal with Idrissa Gueye, but that would be another midfielder out the door if the 35-year-old doesn’t decide to sign for another season.

Brownhill waiting on Burnley ambition
Football Insider verdict
Brownhill was an integral part of Parker’s squad last season that clinched Premier League promotion in emphatic fashion.
The midfielder contributed goals and assists, but was also a key part in there extraordinary defensive record which saw them concede just 16 goals in 46 Championship games.
Now weighing up his options, Brownhill perhaps is looking at the ambition of Burnley to strengthen the squad and not wanting to suffer a familiar fate.
The 29-year-old was part of the Vincent Kompany team that collected just 24 points during the 2023/24 Premier League campaign, and was also relegated under Sean Dyche in the 2021/22 season.
The Clarets have been active in the market signing eight player so far including Jaidon Anthony from Bournemouth, Axel Tuanzebe from Ipswich and Quilindschy Hartman from Feyenoord.
Key players like goalkeeper James Trafford though could leave, with Newcastle negotiating a deal, so Parker also needs to convince the 22-year-old that the club can survive.
