Everton are under new ‘black cloud’ after latest – Keith Wyness

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness believes that the constant points deduction issues at the club are rotting away at its psychology.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – claimed that the “black cloud” hanging over the Toffees is very damaging.

The Merseyside outfit were deducted 10 points earlier in the campaign for financial breaches, with that punishment reduced to six points upon appeal.

A second two-point deduction followed, which is currently under appeal, with a third charge potentially going their way soon.

Fellow Premier League club Nottingham Forest meanwhile were handed a four-point deduction for financial breaches.

That punishment has also been appealed, with both clubs currently trying to avoid relegation from the competition.

“I think Forest are benefiting at the moment of the feeling that they are being picked on a little bit and they are fighting back,” he told the Inside Track podcast.

“The thing with Everton is that it is going on so long now – for the whole season – that it is going to just rot away at your psychology, it’s got to.

“And so it is the length of it that is the problem for me. I think everybody can take a bad decision here or there and come back fighting, but it’s this whole length of time.

“And here we are again, all of a sudden, an appeal was 14 weeks, now it’s only seven, so why couldn’t the first one have only been seven weeks as well if it was true?

“This whole black cloud hanging over a club has got to impact, particularly when the club is in severe ownership issues as well.”
