Everton backed to seal ‘outstanding’ Billy Gilmour deal after journalist’s update – McAvennie

Frank McAvennie “wouldn’t be surprised” if Billy Gilmour joins Everton this summer after a difficult loan spell with Norwich City.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former West Ham and Scotland striker said it was mind blowing that Gilmour didn’t get a game for Norwich.

According to talkSPORT‘s Alex Crook (22 July), Frank Lampard is ready to step up his interest in the 21-year-old.

The manager is said to have been given “the green light” to explore a loan move for the Scotland international.

Gilmour has two years left on his contract at Stamford Bridge after signing an extension in June.

The centre-midfielder spent last season on loan at Carrow Road.

When asked if he thought Gilmour would a welcome addition for the Toffees, McAvennie told Football Insider: “I think Frank Lampard will have seen what he did at Chelsea.

What he did there against Liverpool, people still talk about it. He ran the midfield, turned the midfield of Liverpool inside out that night. I know it’s only one game but that’s the standard he’s got to get to every week.

Everton

Unless he’s at a good club he won’t be able to. Going down to Norwich and them not playing him blew my mind. Then he was outstanding for Scotland. It made me think that Norwich must have some really good players but obviously not.

I wouldn’t be surprised if he goes to Everton.

In other news, Kieran Maguire has suggested Everton could agree new club-record deal after news from Premier League HQ.
