Everton bust-up: Ex-PGMOL chief reveals FA action after manager ‘spat’

The FA are unlikely to take action after Peterborough manager Darren Ferguson claimed an unnamed Everton player had a “pop” at him after their FA Cup clash.

The former PGMOL chief and ex-FIFA official exclusively told Football Insider that they will not want to get involved with an incident such as this in the circumstances.

Ferguson elected not to give Tyler Young the chance to play against his dad, Ashley, as the two sides met in an FA Cup third round clash at Goodison Park on Thursday (9 January).

With Young junior remaining an unused substitute, it meant the pair missed out on the chance to become the first father and son to play against each other in the FA Cup.

But while that seemingly led to some frustration among the Everton camp, it appears the Toffees may avoid any fall-out from what happened.

Keith Hackett reacts to “out of order” Everton accustion

Taking to social media after the game, Ashley Young had made his unhappiness at not being able to play against his son perfectly clear.

Ashley Young missed out on the chance to make history against Peterborough

It appears he may not have been the only one to do so either, with Ferguson seemingly bearing the brunt of one Everton player’s frustration.

Speaking after the game about not bringing Tyler Young on, the Peterborough manager said: “We’re not a charity case – as much as I wanted Tyler to get on with his dad, one of their players had a bit of a pop at me which is bang out of order, I’ve got to do what is best for my team and at that point at 1-0 I am trying to get a result.” (Daily Express).

Hackett though does not believe that whose comments will lead to any action being taken by the FA against the Premier League side.

When asked if those suggestions of a confrontation could be looked into, the former referee told Football Insider:

“He’s missed an opportunity of making history and that is a pity, even if he brought the player on for four or five minutes, it would’ve avoided all this negative publicity for him and his club.

“Because I think most fans would say you’ve missed an opportunity. I don’t think the FA will take any action with regards to the Everton player comment with regards to the manager. They’ll see it just as a local spat and ‘we don’t want to get involved.I think that’s how they will see it.”

The Toffees eventually won the game 2-0, with their second goal coming from an Iliman Ndiaye penalty in the seventh minute of second half stoppage time.

Everton, who have since welcomed David Moyes back to the club as manager, are now set to host Premier League rivals Bournemouth in the fourth round of the competition.
