‘Everton chase Sunderland star Trai Hume’

Everton are interested a deal to sign Sunderland’s talented right-back Trai Hume this summer as the Toffees prepare to overhaul their squad.

The coming transfer window is shaping up to be a busy one for David Moyes‘ side, with a stadium move and a squad overhaul set to take place.

10 Everton first-teamers are out of contract this summer, including striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin as well as stalwarts Seamus Coleman and Ashley Young.

Pete O’Rourke revealed exclusively to Football Insider in April that Everton will give Moyes the funds to “transform” the team.

Keith Wyness revealed his concerns to Football Insider that due to the delay of Angus Kinnear’s arrival at Everton, the club may be in a state of “disarray” with their transfer plans.

However, that has not stopped the club from confirming their first arrival of the summer, with Carlos Alcaraz’s loan move from Flamengo being made permanent.

Everton facing competition from Wolves and La Liga clubs in pursuit of Trai Hume

Sky Sports presenter Dharmesh Sheth revealed (2 June): “A bit of news reaching us at Sky Sports that concerns a highly-rated Sunderland player, Trai Hume.

“Wolves, Everton and a number of La Liga clubs are interested.”

The Northern Irish fullback joined the recently promoted Black Cats in 2022 from Linfield and has gone on to make 132 appearances for the club.

Hume appeared in the 2-1 win over Sheffield United in the playoff final and started in both legs of their semi-final victory over Coventry City.

Everton look to young stars to spark rebuild

Football Insider Verdict

Everton are seemingly attempting to restructure their entire approach to squad-building this summer.

The signing of Alcaraz and the targeting of Hume, when combined with plenty of ageing stars being pushed towards the exit, signals an intent to build a younger side for Moyes to work with.

Plenty of teams have benefited from this approach, with Brighton and Brentford the key examples.

Signing younger players not only allows Everton the opportunity to recruit cheaper options but also, after years of financial strife, the chance for plenty of profit down the line.

Coming off the back of an impressive second half of the season under Moyes, the Toffees look primed for a push towards the top half of the table next season.
