Everton confirmed line-up v Tottenham: Attacker axed

By Danny Wright

Ronald Koeman has made one to his starting line-up ahead of their visit to Tottenham on Sunday.

Everton have dropped attacker Ademola Lookman to the bench to make way for Gareth Barry who returns to the starting 11 to sure up the midfield in what is the only change from the side that beat Sunderland 2-0 last week.

A victory for Koeman’s side could see them apply pressure on sixth placed Manchester United after they failed to beat 10-man Bournemouth on Saturday.

Everton can potentially be two points behind United who occupy a certain Europa League place with a victory.

Seventh could be good enough to ensure continental competition next season for the Toffees, provided one of the top six win the FA Cup.

The Merseyside club were also buoyed by West Bromwich Albion’s loss to Crystal Palace on Saturday as they seem to be the only team capable of catching up with them from below.

However it could be a difficult afternoon for Everton as they are without a victory against Spurs in their last eight games and the hosts could break a new Premier League club record as they hunt a ninth consecutive home win.

There is further motivation for Romelu Lukaku and Harry Kane in the match as the two strikers are currently even in the race for the Premier League golden boot with 17 goals apiece.

Tottenham, on the other hand, could move to within seven points of leaders Chelsea if they were to win widening the gap between themselves and third-placed Liverpool to four points.

In other Everton team news, Koeman has drawn a comparison between Lukaku and Kane and says his Belgian goal machine has two key attributes.
