Contact made, Everton battle with Serie A giants for PL enforcer – report
Everton have made yet more enquiries regarding the possibility of signing Premier League full-backs Baba Rahman and Patrick van Aanholt, according to a report.
The Daily Mail live transfer news feed (14.57) suggested that the Toffees are in the hunt for the Chelsea and Crystal Palace defenders in light of Leighton Baines’ injury.
However, Allardyce will have a battle on his hands if he is going to win the signature of Chelsea’s Rahman, as Schalke and Inter Milan are also thought to be showing an interest in the now fully fit defender.
Rahman spent last season on loan with the Bundesliga outfit, notching up 21 appearances for them but is yet to feature at all for the champions in 2017/18.
Football Insider verdict:
Sam Allardyce desperately needs someone to fill the void that has been left in Baines’ absence. The Premier League veteran, now 33 has been an outstanding servant to the club but a replacement is necessary if the Toffees are going to progress in the right direction. It is highly unlikely that Roy Hodgson will let the Dutch wing-back leave the club midway through the season which means all fingers point in the direction of Rahman. At 23, the Ghanaian has youth on his side which means he would be good for the future, but in truth, he lacks experience in the English top flight and it’s likely that could be exposed. Big Sam needs to continue his search and quickly, as time is running out in this transfer window.
