Everton could agree £7.5m Ernest Nuamah deal after medical – sources

Everton are plotting a move to sign Lyon star Ernest Nuamah in the January transfer window, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that clubs have been alerted to the potential availability of a number of Lyon’s star players ahead of the transfer window.

This comes as a result of the French side’s precarious financial situation under former Everton bidder John Textor, which saw them provisionally relegated to Ligue 2 after racking up more than £500million in debt.

The 21-year-old was going for around £15million in the summer window and is now expected to be available for just half of that asking price.

Nuamah was involved in a controversial summer deal which saw him in tears during a medical at Fulham’s training ground before walking out to stay at Lyon.

However, he has not received the amount of playing time he had hoped for in France, having started just three Ligue 1 games of a possible 14 so far this season.

Everton, meanwhile, are looking to bolster Sean Dyche’s squad in attack mid-way through the season due to their lack of goalscoring threat.

Everton plot January swoop for Lyon star Ernest Nuamah

Nuamah had attracted interest from a number of Premier League sides leading up to his controversial Fulham no-show, and that interest is set to be reignited in January.

The forward, capable of playing anywhere across the front three, is primarily a right-winger who likes to cut inside onto his stronger left foot to create or score goals.

His potential availability, given Lyon’s finances, has placed clubs on alert with Everton among those queuing up to move for his signature.

The Toffees have found the net 14 times in 14 games so far, placing them in joint-second-last among Premier League clubs for goals scored amid concerns from the supporters.

Bringing in a versatile forward has become a key target under Dyche as the club are keen to add more creativity and firepower to their attack.
