‘Everton could be about to pull off big coup by appointing Sergio Conceicao’

Everton have been backed to pull of a “massive” coup with the appointment of FC Porto boss Sergio Conceicao to replace Sean Dyche.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson, who remains well-connected within the game, explained that the new owners are keen to bring their own man in following their takoever.

Conceicao, 50, has lifted three Portuguese league titles, four Portuguese Cups and one Portuguese League Cup, and has won 265 of his 368 games as Porto boss, drawn 48 and lost 55.

As things stand, Friedkin’s purchase of Farhad Moshiri’s 94.1% stake in the club is expected to be finalised before the end of the year after the Premier League’s checks.

Now, it is expected that they will want to hire a big-name boss as the first step of their transformation of the club as they prepare to move to the Bramley Moore Dock Stadium.

This comes amid speculation over Dyche’s future, with Everton having won just two of their 12 Premier League games so far this season.

On top of that, the Goodison Park crowd has grown restless after going three games without a goal, and having scored just 10 goals in 12 games so far.

Everton backed to make ‘massive’ managerial appointment amid Sean Dyche pressure

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown previously told Football Insider that growing pressure from the stands could force the new owners into a decision.

Now, Robinson has insisted that Conceicao would be a statement hire for Friedkin given his impressive record of winning trophies in Portugal.

“Conceicao would be a massive get,” he told Football Insider.

“Looking at his record at Braga and now with Porto, he’s won three titles in Portugal as well as numerous domestic cup competitions.

“That would be a coup for Everton if they could bring him in.

“But we’re talking about the job while the manager, Sean Dyche, is still in charge.

“When there’s a takeover happening at any club, the likelihood is they’ll want to bring their own manager in to stamp their authority.

“Conceicao hasn’t been tested in the Premier League, but he would be a big draw.

“He’s got a very impressive CV when you look at what he’s done and what he’s won, as well as the experience he’s got and the ability to help develop players.”
