Everton could sell new stadium and use Chelsea loopholes – Keith Wyness
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has insisted his former side should consider selling assets in intra-company deals – just like Chelsea.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – claimed the Toffees’ women’s side or the new Bramley-Moore Dock stadium could be used to reduce allowable losses.
As per the BBC (4 September), Chelsea were cleared by the Premier League for the £76.5million sale of two club hotels to a sister company.
The sale has been ratified as fair market value and has therefore reduced their financial losses and helped the club avoid a breach of Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) and a potential points deduction.
Multiple reports have claimed the Blues also sold their women’s side and part of their Cobham training ground in similar deals.
Everton, who are in the process of being purchased by US investor John Textor, will open their new Bramley-Moore Dock stadium next year.
Everton must consider using Chelsea loopholes, says Wyness
Wyness told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “You’ve got to look at corporate restructuring and see if the ladies’ team could be sold as Chelsea have done.
“You look at Bramley-Moore, the new stadium, could that be packaged up and sold somehow?
“I’m sure every potential opportunity is being looked at right now, given that Chelsea and their hotel sales have passed through.

“But it will depend where the actual legal ownership lies in the corporate structure.
“I’d hope that people are looking at that closely for Everton, I know I certainly would be if I was still there.”
