‘Everton boss David Moyes eyes John McGinn swoop amid Aston Villa exit news’

John McGinn has been tipped to consider making an Aston Villa exit amid interest in his services from David Moyes’ Everton.

The Scotland international has been a fantastic servant for the West Midlands side since joining from Hibernian back in 2018.

McGinn played a key role when Villa won promotion from the Championship in 2019, and has gone on to score in the Champions League for Unai Emery’s men.

The 30-year-old remained a key player for Aston Villa last season, notching four goals and six assists across all competitions.

Aston Villa set to seek ‘classy’ McGinn replacement amid Everton interest

David Moyes is looking to strengthen his ranks this summer, while Everton have signed striker Thierno Barry from Villarreal.

But the Toffees must also bolster their midfield options after former key man Abdoulaye Doucoure left Merseyside as a free agent.

According to a report by The Athletic on Tuesday, 8 July, Everton have registered an interest in signing Villa captain John McGinn.

Meanwhile, speaking about the Toffees’ potential swoop for McGinn live on talkSPORT [9 July], Alan Brazil said: “For Everton, Moyes he’s had a quiet word, and I think he’d be a big asset to Everton.

“Maybe they (Villa) are looking for a bit more of a classier player. John’s a worker, gives his 100 per cent every time, doesn’t he?

“He’s been a great servant, but maybe he wants to move on at his age now.”

McGinn would be a top addition for Moyes

Villa should be reluctant to part company with McGinn, who remains an influential figure for the West Midlands outfit both on the pitch and in the dressing room.

McGinn could be a strong signing for Everton

However, if the Scotland star is keen on a fresh challenge amid the interest in his services from Everton, he would be a top addition for the Blues.

After battling against relegation in recent seasons, the Merseyside club are keen to return to the upper echelons of the Premier League table as they look to enjoy a strong start to a new chapter in their history at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Acquiring McGinn would help Moyes’ men do just that as the Villa captain has helped Emery’s men not only establish themselves as a solid top-flight outfit but also eventually reach the Champions League quarter-finals.

Everton may not yet boast realistic European aspirations, but the former Hibernian man’s presence would help the North West side reach a new level.

Meanwhile, the Toffees are set to reap the monetary benefits of Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s release, according to football finance expert Dan Plumley in a Goodison News exclusive.
