Everton: David Moyes must take note of Adam Aznou’s position change on international duty

Everton boss David Moyes has to give Adam Aznou a chance on the left wing after he scored while playing there for Morocco’s under-23 side.

Aznou has struggled for game time at Everton since joining from Bayern Munich last summer, despite their lack of depth at left-back.

Moyes has only handed one appearance to the 19-year-old so far this season, as he impressed in an FA Cup cameo against Sunderland in January.

Many Toffees fans have called on their manager to give Aznou more minutes in their first team before the end of the campaign, and his latest international exploits have proven that he deserves a better chance to show what he can do.

Everton’s next match comes against Brentford on 11 April as they aim to keep their European dream alive, and Aznou could well be an option further forward after what he did for Morocco’s under-23’s.

Adam Aznou scored on international duty while playing on the left wing

Aznou has made three appearances for Morocco’s senior team to date, but missed out on going to the recent Africa Cup of Nations due to his lack of minutes at Everton.

His struggles on Merseyside have seen him demoted back to their U23 team for now, and he was handed a start in their friendly against Ivory Coast’s under-23 side on Monday.

Aznou began the game on the left wing, according to reports, and netted the opening goal with a well-taken finish that saw him take the ball past the goalkeeper and beat two defenders to place home into an empty net.

The level is not close to the Premier League, but he clearly has some impressive attacking abilities that Moyes should take advantage of this season.

Aznou’s sole first team appearance in the cup saw him win a late penalty that was dispatched by James Garner, and he won another two fouls and made four passes into Sunderland’s box in his 34 minutes on the pitch.

His latest international exploits prove that he is useful going forward, so Moyes must take note and give him a chance on the left wing before the end of this season.

Left wing could be Aznou’s long-term position as Everton eye summer addition

Vitalii Mykolenko has nailed down his place as Everton’s first-choice left-back ahead of Aznou this season, while Garner and Jarrad Branthwaite have played there in his absence before the Moroccan.

Sources have told Football Insider that Everton are tracking Myles Lewis-Skelly ahead of the summer window, with a new left-back believed to be on their radar.

Nathan Ake has also been linked with a move to the Hill Dickinson Stadium, while they are set to accelerate contract talks with Mykolenko to keep him at the club for next season and beyond.

Aznou will find it tough to make his mark at left-back if Moyes signs a new player in that position this summer, and so it seems pretty obvious to give him a chance further forward in the coming months.
