Sources: Everton star Eldin Jakupovic in advanced talks to join Los Angeles FC

MLS side Los Angeles FC are in advanced talks to sign Everton goalkeeper Eldin Jakupovic, sources have told Football Insider.

The keeper, 38, joined the Premier League club in September on a short-term contract following his departure from Leicester City in the summer.

The former Hull keeper’s deal at Everton expires this month and he is poised to join Los Angeles on a free transfer.

A deal is close to being finalised with negotiations advancing in recent hours.

It is expected that a full agreement will be in place by the end of the week and he will then link up with the likes of Gareth Bale at the MLS Cup holders.

Everton moved for Jakupovic to solve a goalkeeper injury crisis following injuries earlier in the season to Jordan Pickford and Andy Lonergan.

The Switzerland international has yet to make a first-team appearance during his time at Goodison Park and was only named once on the bench for the clash against West Ham on September 18.

Los Angeles have made a move for Jakupovic on a free transfer as they look to bolster their goalkeeping options ahead of the new MLS season.

Current number one Maxime Crepeau is still recovering from a broken leg he sustained in the MLS Cup final in November against Philadelphia Union.

Jakupovic is an experienced operator after spells at Leicester, Hull City, Lokomotiv Moscow and Grasshoppers Zurich.

He has been made available for sale by Everton as they prepare to offload a number of fringe stars this month.
