Everton re-ignite sensational swoop for Serie A centre-back, £49m release clause - reports
By Russell Edge
Everton have enquired again about the availability of Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly, according to a report.
Italian news outlet Il Mattino claim that the Toffees have been in touch with 25-year-old centre-back Koulibaly’s agent Bruno Satin, and say the defender has a £49million release clause.
The Senegalese man has been heavily linked with Premier League leaders Chelsea in the past, with Napoli chairman Aurelio De Laurentiis admitting the Blues failed with a number of transfer bids last summer.
However, Il Mattino claim that Chelsea have not returned with a bid for Koulibaly since, and it is fellow Premier League side Everton who are looking to seal the Napoli man’s signature.
The Sun claimed that Everton were interested in the defender last summer, but he has since singed a contract extension until 2021.

If Everton could pull off the transfer it would be a sensational move by Koeman, and prove that the club can attract world-class players as they target the Champions League and beyond.
It would also represent a significant profit for Napoli, after Koulibaly moved from Genk in July 2014 for around £5.5million.
Football Insider verdict:
If Everton did manage to pull off the signing of Koulibaly, it would be considered a massive coup. Pursued so intently by Chelsea last summer, it appears the Blues have cooled their interest, although with John Terry’s imminent departure, that could all change. For the Toffees, the defender’s signing would demonstrate a real signal of intent to compete with the very top sides. It could also prove to play a huge role off the pitch, in convincing striker Romelu Lukaku to remain at the club with the likes of Chelsea sniffing around. Convincing Koulibaly to give up Champions League football may prove a stumbling block in their hopes, but a bright finish to the season will certainly go some way in proving they are the right place to be for the 25-year-old.
In other Everton news, the club are closing in on a deal for a £30m-rated Premier League defender.
