Everton: Ex-Goodison chief gives thumbs up to sign Myles Lewis-Skelly instead of Julian Brandt

Everton would not be getting an upgrade on their midfield options if they were to sign Julian Brandt in the summer transfer window.

That is according to ex-Everton, Aston Villa, and Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, who thinks the Toffees are more likely to sign Arsenal star Myles Lewis-Skelly.

Brandt’s contract at Borussia Dortmund expires at the end of the season, with Everton one of a number of European clubs interested in the 29-year-old.

David Moyes is keen to add strength in depth to his Everton squad in the summer, with Lewis-Skelly also emerging as a target.

Julian Brandt ‘not an upgrade’ on Everton’s current options

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – is dismissing the rumours of Brandt moving to the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness thinks Brandt may struggle to adjust to the Premier League.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “This is one that I don’t think is quite so real. I think he’s not necessarily an upgrade of what we’ve got, to be honest, in midfield, I think, given the wages he’d be looking well.

“Obviously he’s a talent. I don’t think he’s necessarily going to be added into the Everton squad as an upgrade. And also in terms of the Premier League, I don’t necessarily think he’s the right one.

“So that’s one that I’m going to dismiss at the moment. But I think Lewis-Skelly, I think that’s definitely one that I’m saying is a thumbs up at the moment.”

Everton remain firm on Iliman Ndiaye stance

Sources have told Football Insider that Everton will not sell Iliman Ndiaye in the summer transfer window amid interest from Premier League rivals Arsenal and Manchester United.

Ndiaye has been one of Everton’s star players this season, and interest in the 26-year-old could increase further if he enjoys a successful World Cup with Senegal this summer.

The Toffees have no plans to sell any star players, though Ndiaye will have ambitions to compete at the highest level in the future.
