Everton expert tips David Moyes to re-sign fan favourite in January

David Moyes has been backed to re-sign a former Everton fan favourite in the January transfer window.

The Toffees had an impressive start to the season, but have dropped down the Premier League in recent weeks.

Moyes‘ side have won just one of their last six top-flight games, and now sit 14th in the table.

Everton’s 3-0 defeat to Tottenham on Sunday (26 October) was their first ever loss at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, and leaves the Merseyside club in desperate need of some positive results.

Everton look to solve striker problems in January

Moyes is reportedly determined to bring in a new striker at Everton as he plans to replace the out-of-form Beto.

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes that Tottenham forward Richarlison could be in line to make a move back to his old side.

The Brazilian left Everton to join Spurs in the summer of 2022, after playing a vital role in keeping them in the Premier League the season before.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness insisted that Richarlison’s return to Merseyside would be well-received by the fans.

Wyness added that it wouldn’t be a long-term solution, but could work until the end of the season.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “It’s been talked about for a while now. Richarlison could certainly do a job.

“I think with the supply he would be getting from Grealish, Ndiaye, and Dewsbury-Hall, any decent striker should really do well.

“Richarlison obviously knows the club well. He would be well received by the fans, and that could help. I just don’t know what the deal would be in terms of him being released by Spurs.

“I think Spurs will be changing their forward line, either in January or certainly in the summer. So I think he will be on the move, and he would be well-received at Everton.

“But it’s whether he’s the right age for Everton right now when they’re trying to build a younger squad for the future. If he came in January, that could work for the rest of the season. But I don’t see him being the long-term solution.”

Everton eye another striker option for January

Meanwhile, Everton have a “concrete” interest in signing Ivan Toney in the January transfer window, sources have told Football Insider.

Toney joined Al-Ahli from Brentford for £40million in 2024, but a sensational return to the Premier League is firmly on the cards.

West Ham United have been linked with a move for Toney, as they struggle with a centre-forward crisis under Nuno Espirito Santo.

However, sources say that Everton are being seen by the player and his camp as a better fit for the England international, as he is a classic Moyes-type player.
