Everton in Sunday transfer mission as they move on winger - report
By Russell Edge
Everton are set to go head to head with local rivals Liverpool as they made transfer checks on Oxford United’s Marvin Johnson, according to a report.
The Daily Mail claims that the the two Merseyside clubs will be scouting 26-year-old Johnson on Sunday as his side take on Shrewsbury in their final League One game of the season.
The former Motherwell man is naturally a left winger, but has been deployed as a left back for much of the season by Oxford boss Michael Appleton.
Johnson joined Oxford from the Scottish club last summer, and has gone on to make 51 appearances in all competitions this campaign, scoring six goals.

It has been no secret that both Everton and Liverpool have been in the market for a full back leading up to this summer’s transfer window, so to see Johnson on both their radars is no surprise. What is a surprise is that he is being considered by sides in the top six of England after a relatively unassuming career. At 26-years-old, it is not like he is a bright young talent dominating lower league football. If either side were to snatch up Johnson, it would be reminiscent of Jamie Vardy joining Leicester from Fleetwood Town. Would Johnson have the same impact as Vardy? Fans will just have to wait and see.
