Three men in running to be new Everton manager, £8m-a-yr offer to be tabled to 45-y/o – report
By Richard Parks
Paulo Fonseca, Marco Silva and Carlo Ancelotti are in the running to become the new Everton manager, according to a report.
The Sun claim the trio are firmly in contention to replace Sam Allardyce, whose future is shrouded in serious doubt even though he was only appointed last November.
It is said that Everton will have to pay huge salaries to entice the three managers in what would be a major test of the wealth of majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri.
The Sun report that the cash-rich Merseyside club are considering appointing Shakhtar Donetsk manager Fonseca, who has guided the club to the verge of a second straight league title and also steered them to the last 16 of this season’s Champions League.
But Everton face a major battle to land the Portugese as Shakhtar are prepared to table an £8million-a-year contract offer in a bid to keep hold of him.
Silva was sacked by Watford in January while serial winner Ancelotti was given his marching orders by Bayern Munich early in the campaign.
Football Insider verdict:
Allardyce has guided Everton to safety – they already have 40 points, with six games left, but supporters have not warmed to him. The team’s functional playing style is a world away from want fans want and it appears that the club’s hierarchy feel the same way following the huge investment in the squad in recent years. Moshiri is ambitious and willing to put his money where his mouth is. There was always the sense that Allardyce was seen as a necessary evil to stave off any thoughts of relegation, but a younger manager with bright ideas and a glowing reputation in the European game is high on the agenda for the Merseysiders.
