Everton facing ‘another big points deduction’ – Keith Wyness
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has claimed the club will face a deduction of around six points if found guilty of another Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) breach.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – claimed the “hangover” from last season’s hearing should have been resolved much sooner.
The Premier League allege £6.5million, which was attributed to new stadium interest payments, should be added to the club’s spending for the 2022-23 campaign as it was used for day-to-day running costs.
Everton were already docked two points for a £16million overspend in the 2022-23 campaign.
According to The Sun (10 August), the commission have yet to tell the Toffees or the Premier League when they will reach a decision – despite both parties pushing for an answer.
Leicester are also facing the threat of a potential deduction after being hit with a PSR charge last term.
Six-point deduction for Everton ‘definitely’ possible, says Wyness
Wyness told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “This is a hangover from the last judgement.
“I still don’t understand why the committee couldn’t have handled it in the last hearing.
“But they said they needed more time to discuss the accounting principles behind the interest paid on the new stadium.
“It’s not new news, it was always going to hang over the new season.
“It’s something which should have been resolved much quicker, it’s a case of classification of interest payments – there must be something behind it that I’m not aware of.
“If they are found guilty on this, it will lead to another potential big points deduction.

“I’m thinking it could be somewhere in the range of six points.
“There’s definitely a chance of that.”
