‘Everton fan’ Potter could reject West Ham for Goodison job – top source
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has revealed he has heard manager target Graham Potter is a supporter of the Merseysiders.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – insisted the Friedkin Group must decide whether to sack Sean Dyche – or back him – imminently.
Everton and West Ham have both been heavily linked with Potter, who has been out of work since leaving Chelsea in April 2023.
Football Insider revealed on Wednesday (8 January) that the Irons are locked in talks with the 49-year-old as discussions centre on the length of a potential contract and performance-related clauses.
He wants a two-and-a-half-year deal but West Ham are currently only offering a contract running until the end of this season.
Dyche is under pressure at Goodison Park after a dismal recent run which leaves them just one point above the Premier League drop zone.
Everton must ‘sack or back’ Dyche imminently amid Potter latest, says Wyness
Wyness told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “Could West Ham be pipped at the post if Everton wanted Potter?
“There’s no doubt he would be on the list, he’s an Everton fan – from what I’ve heard about his background.
“At the moment, there’s nothing factual.
“It does seem that Potter would be a good fit for West Ham, but the rumours have been that Dan Ashworth and him could reunite at Everton after their time together at Brighton.
“There’s a race on.
“There are a lot of other options for Everton and the Friedkins will have a lot of advisors making sure they make the right decision.
“Do you stick with Dyche, give him some fresh players, extend his contract and support him? That could calm things down and get the players behind him.

“Or do you get someone else in now? The worst thing of all would be to make no decision, and that’s the problem they have.
“The clock is ticking and the Friedkins have to get this right. It’s sack Dyche or back him at the moment.”
