Everton fans rage at VAR controversy vs Bournemouth – ‘The corruption continues’

Everton fans on social media are outraged that their side was not awarded a penalty during their 2-1 defeat to Bournemouth on Saturday afternoon (30 March).

The Toffees suffered a late heartbreak during their trip to the Vitality Stadium after a last-gasp own-goal from Seamus Coleman.

It looked as though Beto had rescued a point for the visitors after he came off the bench to equalise in the 87th minute, but the Cherries regained the lead just minutes later through an unfortunate own goal.

Everton felt they should have been awarded a penalty in the second half after Dominic Calvert-Lewin went to ground following contact from Adam Smith.

However, referee Sam Barrott allowed play to continue and VAR decided not to intervene.

The Toffees remain the only Premier League side this season yet to score from the penalty spot.

Blues fans on social media were left fuming that they were denied a “blatant” penalty for the tackle on Calvert-Lewin.

Everton remain 16th in the Premier League table after their defeat but results elsewhere mean they are now just three points clear of the relegation zone.

Dyche’s side return to action on Tuesday night (2 April) when they travel to Tyneside to face Newcastle United.
