Everton fans have taken to Twitter to express their delight at the prospect of the club dumping Sam Allardyce and replacing him with Shakhtar Donetsk manager Paulo Fonseca.

The Mirror claim the Goodison Park majority shareholder will lead a second straight off-season shake-up following a campaign that has failed to live up to expectations.

It is said that Allardyce and director of football Steve Walsh are likely to be axed and replaced by Fonseca and PSV Eindhoven’s recruitment chief Marcelo Brands.

Allardyce was appointed manager last November on a contract that runs until the summer of 2019 but has struggled to convince the Everton faithful despite steering the team to safety.

The Merseysiders are ninth in the Premier League and have 40 points after fears earlier in the season they could be drawn into a relegation battle.

Ex-Porto and Braga manager Fonseca, 45, has an excellent record at Ukraine outfit Shakhtar, who are on course for a second consecutive Premier League title and reached the last 16 of this season’s Champions League.

Everton supporters are excited at the prospect of his appointment.
