Everton fans will be ‘really upset’ by Rodriguez latest – Kenny

James Rodriguez is entitled to want to leave Everton – but he has “really upset” the fans in the manner that he has angled for an exit.

So says ex-Premier League goalkeeper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the 30-year-old Colombian playmaker.

Rodriguez was widely linked with a move away from Goodison Park this summer despite having only signed 12 months ago.

He bothered some fans when, as quoted by The Independent on 20 August, he admitted he didn’t know who the club were set to play that weekend.

But Rodriguez, who is under contract on Merseyside until next summer, remains on the books after the transfer window closed last night.

And Everton fans will not be best pleased with his behaviour in recent weeks, insists Kenny.

“He wants to play football like all footballers do,” he told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams.

“He’s wanted to try and get out, but there’s a right way to do it. You don’t want to go around upsetting people.

“Your attitude has got to be right, and you’ve got to do it the right way. He has really upset the fans, and they have got a reason to be upset.

“But as I say, there’s a correct way to do these things. At least if you are going to leave then you leave on a good note.”

Rodriguez is yet to feature for Everton in 2021-22.

He scored six goals and supplied nine assists in 26 appearances last term.
