Everton fans ‘would go crazy’ if Calvert-Lewin sold for £50m after Benitez confession – pundit
Alan Hutton has claimed Everton fans will “go crazy” if any big-name stars are sold next month in a bid to raise transfer funds.
However, the former Scotland defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, admitted “something has to give” with Rafael Benitez working with a small to non-existent budget.
As quoted by the Liverpool Echo last week (November 30), Benitez confessed he is hopeful the club can “sell some players for a profit” to free up money at Goodison Park.

The Spaniard suggested the Toffees need to learn from other clubs who have sold players “at the right time”.
However, Hutton insisted the departure of any top stars would only worsen the mood on Merseyside.
Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “I sit here from a fans’ point of view.
“If they were to sell Calvert-Lewin for £50million or more, I think the fans would just go crazy. I don’t think that’s going to help the situation
“They want to see a team that’s improving, moving forward under a manager who’s challenging for top-six places.
“That is probably where they think they should be after the money they’ve spent over the last four or five years.
“But they’re not. They’re nowhere near it. Something has to give. It really does, when you think about it.
“Whether it be a player moving on or getting out the deadwood, however you want to try and work it, something needs to change.”

Calvert-Lewin has missed much of the current campaign due to a broken toe.
The Toffees only spent £1.7million during the summer due to financial fair play limits.
